How much power does a union contract have? 10 Roads acknowledges in its handbook that their handbook cannot contradict a union contract and that the union contract controls.
You can imagine why the company might want to avoid its workers forming a union and getting a strong contract.
The 10 Roads Employee Handbook says: “The employment terms set out in this Handbook apply to all drivers to the extent not contradicted by a unionized driver’s applicable collective bargaining agreement…Wherever employment terms in this handbook differ from the terms expressed in an applicable collective bargaining agreement…Unionized drivers should refer to the specific terms of the collective bargaining agreement, which will control” (page 2).

There is a National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) that gives workers a legal right to form a union. This act provides workers with protections from employers attempting to stop, threaten or retaliate against a worker who is in a union or working to form a union.
